COOLER CLEANING AND ASSESSMENT SERVICES

Housed within our ISO graded clean room, we can offer component cleanliness assessment and preparation to ISO 16232:2007 for any number of automotive fluid components.  Specialising in heat exchanger systems, with delicate core structures, the sample assessment and cleaning process provides superior care and sampling handling, over and above the general fluid systems employed within the industry. A number of solutions are available for the cleanliness assessment, covering gravimetric analysis, digital microscope imaging to online particle counting and sizing.

The service can be tailored to customer requirements or completed to the international recognised standard. The addition of the comprehensive cleaning and filtering system tailor the service towards the high performance motorsport sector and aviation industry, although current customers include power generation, defence and pharmaceutical industries.

PARTICLE ANALYSIS

Cooler Particle Analysis

Analysis of bare and tanked cores to ISO 16232:2007 is available with online particle analysis for count and sizing down to 2 µm. Results can be expressed per volume ratio or component and are presented in tabular and graphical formats for count and size. Complimenting the real-time analysis, is the gravimetric particle filtration system utilising pre-conditioned sample membranes at controlled moisture contents and optional digital microscopic imaging capture. Cores are assessed “as delivered” and after a six-stage cleaning and filtration process, prior to customer return.

CORE CLEANING

All cooler core cleaning, flushing, filtration and drying is completed within the clean room environment. Several processes are utilised for core cleaning, but the utmost priority will ensure the component integrity is not degraded. A range of cleaning processes are available within the laboratory including, steam wands, solvent flushing, aqueous flushing, slugging and ultrasonic cleaning, with a selection of cleaners and solvents to suit customer needs. All post flushing fluids for the final cleaning and filtration are sourced from a water purification system, with filter retention levels to specific customer requirements, via a four stage filtration system. Prior to final drying, a particle analysis is conducted to satisfy the customer target requirements. Finally a two stage drying process is applied to the internal and external surfaces via a forced flow system at controlled low dew point.

CORE TESTING

A full range of flow, pressure and calorimetric performance testing is available for tanked cores, covering oil, coolant and chargecooler systems. As a minimum quality control check all tanked cores will be leak tested upto a maximum of 10 barg.

Due to the similarity of ISO 16232 (for component assessment) and ISO 4406 (for fluid assessment), both standards can be accommodated.
