The role is for an Instrument Calibration Technician within our Shoreham Airport based UKAS accredited Calibration Laboratory. You will be part of the team responsible for the day to day operation of the calibration services, ensuring customer expectations are managed in terms of quality, technical and timing. Once initial training has been undertaken you will be expected to operate in at least three areas of the facility with minimal supervision, covering fluid flow, gas flow, air velocity, pressure, temperature and humidity calibrations. You will be responsible for the day to day calibration of various instrument types and will be expected to work in a clean and tidy environment. You will be expected to understand the day to day validity of test results, quality control and maintaining the relevant lines of traceability. The candidate will report to the Calibration Team Leader and/or Operations Manager. Due to the nature of the work, the position may require extended hours working due to high demand.


  • Day to day operation of calibration rigs
  • Installation and rigging of calibration items into the relevant rigs
  • Modification of test rigs and piping systems to suit individual test requirements
  • Processing of calibration results in MS Excel, certificates and labelling
  • Checking and pre-approval of calibration certificates prior to signatory sign-off
  • Liaison with other test and calibration personnel for priority tasks
  • Cleanliness of the laboratory, associated areas, fittings and tools
  • Working unsupervised and in a timely and professional manner
  • Participation in peer assessments, internal investigations and UKAS assessment visits
  • Ensuring calibration equipment is fit for purpose, calibrated and fully functional
  • Ensuring customer turnaround times are met


Additional to the main duties as set out above, you may also be required to undertake any of the following:

Applicant Minimum Requirements

Ideally the candidate will be educated to at least A level in Mathematics and a science subject (or Equivalent Diploma Level) and have at least 2 years experience in a workshop or laboratory environment.

Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

Ability to use and safely operate a variety of hand tools (spanners, screwdrivers, files, saws, grips, etc), power tools (drills, grinder, saws), electrical and shop air tools and equipment (micrometer, vernier, weigh scales, multimeter).

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Meticulous attention to detail.


18,000 - 24,000 depending upon experience. The company operates a flexitime system and a discretionary profit related bonus scheme.
